I love that Slav has found a system to fit our best players in and get the most out of them.

He might need to find a new club then.

Re: Fernandes
Was very impressed with this bloke last night. He has now played center midfield (and both wingback positions?) and has been solid every time.

Looks very comfortable on the ball, good movement and still very young.

I hope he gets more involvement and gets even better.

Possible and like I was saying Noble is vulnerable due to age but from the little I have seen of Fernandes he is more like Kouyate but with far better technique (passing) and thus far much better team player in terms of being disciplined and prepared to do the running and tracking back. He also seems quicker than Kouyate and of course Noble (who isnt't? ) :-)

Noble IMHO is more of a link from defence to attack (albeit not too many options going forward this season hence sideways) and a player who likes to thread passes in the channels or switch play. Fernandes might be able to take on that role but early days yet to know if he would be the same type of player.

I would agree / hope that a replacement for Noble is lined up in the next season or so. The old romantic in me hopes its Cullen but more than likely another Johnny Foreigner :-(

Yeah for sure albeit Kayoute poor form in the middle has seen a tweak in formation to which has benefitted him?

I concur Alf re Oxford and playing time but of course some would argue if given more minutes then more likely to stay?

Re: Fernandes
Fernandes is a central midfielder and for me an upgrade on Kouyate longer term. Noble may well be the first to start looking over his shoulder though based on age but in terms of type of player Fernandes is similar to Kouyate and more box-to-box I am led to believe :-)

Oxford I think might be being starved of opportunities as part of his and his agents contract stand off with the club. Just a wild guess and probably wrong but if he does not want to commit his long term future why would we develop him for United? Of course that could be nonsense but might explain the fact he has not featured for a while now?

both need a few steaks and gym time.
Both are quick, nimble footed but are on the lightweight side

Re: Fernandes
What is his preferred position? I'd like to see him in it tomorrow night tbh he looks the real deal

first full prem game being played out of position and his pass completion was very impressive, it seems Henry has sniffed out a gem here

Re: Fernandes
Oxford is 18 in December and 2 years younger than Fernandes. At CB Oxford could get bullied by some hard nosed strikers which was why his starts were in midfield. He might well get chances in a back 3 but would anyone be confident relying on Oxford marking Diego Costa in a back 4?

Fernandes cost us £5.5m after having played 48 games for Sion in the Swiss league. OK he's still young but he is a real first team prospect that once he gets a chance in his proper position, he will be hard to shift but knowing Bilic's MO now I think he will come good next season.

Re: Fernandes
I understand the Oxford comparisons but I'm not sure it's a fair one. Oxford is like 8 or something and hasn't even cut his teeth in professional football. Fernandes is about 4 years older (which is a hell of a lot in footballing terms) and played 50 odd games over a couple of seasons in a half decent European League. I think he won a trophy there too?

Lad looks well good enough and hopefully a gradual introduction could be a regular starter in the middle by the end of this season.

Re: Fernandes
Oxford played at home to Leicester last season in front of the back four. He only lasted 45 minutes and that day he was not even good enough to get in the way.

My recollection of young aspiring centre backs is that they do some of their apprenticeship at full back. If Bilic is going to persist with a back three though Oxford is unsuitable for a wing back role he at least has one of the back three positions to compete for.

Re: Fernandes
Oxford played in midfield against Arsenal and Leicester. The bloke is not a midfielder though - that much was obvious against Lusitans.

I missed the game on Sat - am looking forward to seeing this Fernandes fellow.

Re: Fernandes
I was really impressed with him. Full PL debut and being played out of position. Before KO he looked relaxed and looked a proper player. Got forward when he could and looked calm and assured at the back. Played some nice cross field balls and kept it simple when he needed to.

Great debut.

Re: Fernandes
He didn't play vs Bournemouth. He did have a poor half against the eventual champions Leicester, and then barely got any play for the rest of the season. The same knee-jerk logic should mean many of our under-performers this season should be dropped until 2035.
